Lunches

At lunchtime our students eat lunch together in our hall.  During the warmer weather pupils are given the choice to eat their packed lunches outside and in the summer term can order a packed-lunch option from the kitchen for this purpose.

Our School lunches are supplied by catering provider Caterlink

"We are proud of our food heritage which demonstrates our commitment to traceability of the meals we serve. Our meat main meals are freshly prepared on site and made with Red Tractor/Farm Assured fresh meat whilst our suppliers are audited by an external body to ensure they comply with our high standards and statutory obligations". Caterlink

We operate an online payment system for lunches, to login please click here.

The cost of school meals are £3.00 per day, and payment must be made in advance on the first day of each school week. Alternatively, monthly or half-termly payments may be made in advance by cash or cheque (made payable to Sun Hill Junior School). We also have the facility to pay securely online on your child’s scopay account using a credit or debit card – please enquire at the school office.

In accordance with our debt recovery policy, please note that if payment is more than 5 days overdue the school reserves the right to refuse your child a school meal. In this instance you should provide your child with a packed lunch until you have paid in full.

Menus are changed termly and rotate on a 3 week basis and are priced at £3.00 a day. This includes a main meal along with additional bread and salad which is available daily. A selection of alternative desserts (bananas, apples, oranges, yoghurts, rice pots, fruit pots, cheeses, fruit juices and low-sugar desserts) are also available each day.

If you feel your child may be entitled to a free school meal then please contact the school office or for more information visit:  https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/freeschoolmeals/juniorsecondary

Medical Special Diets Registration

Does your child need a medical special diet to eat lunch at school?  If so, you need to register your child for a medical special diet by completing this form and returning it to the school office.  Once you have completed the required form  Caterlink will review your medical evidence  in order to devise an adapted menu for your child's school lunch.

Caterlink follows the following guidance in regards to special diets:

• A special diet is identified as one where the standard provision requires amendments to be made to ensure that it is safe for a customer, due to a specially diagnosed requirement such as a food allergy or intolerance.
• We do not consider children’s preferences as special diets, as we believe that children should be encouraged to try new foods whilst tastebuds are changing and developing.
• Lifestyle and religious choices will not be considered as special diets. In the circumstance that no suitable food is offered as part of the daily provision, please speak to your Caterlink unit manager
•Allergen information can be given to enable children to make safe, informed
choices. Pupils should speak to the catering team for information on suitable dishes.

Packed Lunches

Alternatively, children are welcome to bring a packed lunch.  These should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.  We politely ask that crisps, sweets and chocolate biscuits are limited in lunchboxes and encourage morning snacks to be fruit or an alternative healthy option.

No nut, nutspread, chocolate nut spread or nut based items please
